Sheltering: An individual walking in the area of Sixth and North streets told police a woman had been assaulted and was hiding under a van in a church parking lot, Saturday. Police located the woman under a white panel van in the rear of the lot and had her crawl out from under it, reporting she was covered in dust and dirt, she had cuts and bruises on her head and her bare feet were bleeding. She told Steubenville firefighters/EMS she “is pregnant and was struck numerous times with a 2-by-4” by a man known to her, but police said she was very difficult to understand “and appeared to be under the influence of some type of drug.” Officers searched the area for her assailant, who was reported to be on foot, but couldn’t find him.
Bloody mess: A Brady Avenue resident said he told a family member to leave his house and was pummeled, Saturday. Police said the victim’s shirt was covered in blood and he was bleeding from his nose, which appeared to be broken, and had “severe swelling on his left cheek-bone area.” He said the two of them had argued and when he told him to leave the man “struck him multiple times using a closed fist.” His wife said she didn’t see the assault but confirmed they’d argued after his assailant “confronted him for upsetting his daughter” the day before. The homeowner told police he wants to pursue charges.
Death wish: A caller reported seeing a man defecating on the sidewalk in the 700 block of North Sixth Street but police found no evidence of it, Saturday. Police said when they arrived at the location the man was “laying on the sidewalk sleeping” and they didn’t see “any other substances near or around (him).” They informed him of the call and waited until he left the area. Police have responded to a handful of reports during the past week involving the same man sleeping in the vestibules of apartment buildings and on sidewalks, and said on Friday they found him laying in the roadway on University Boulevard near Franciscan Square after a caller reported he was “refusing to move despite there being oncoming traffic.”
Sisters fighting: A woman in the 400 block of South Fifth Street said she and her sister were arguing over marijuana and her sister “attempted to hit her with a beer bottle and missed,” Sunday. She said her sister did punch her, but police said she had no apparent injuries. She wants to pursue charges.
Happy ending: Glendwell Roard residents told police a neighbor is threatening them, Saturday. They said he “continually makes allegations that they are drug addicts and dirty people who brought rats into the building” but police noted their apartment was “clean and tidy.” Since the problems are ongoing, both households installed surveillance cameras in their shared basement, and the callers told police they captured footage Saturday of the other man in the basement “yelling into their camera that he was going to (mess) someone up” if they tampered with his washer and dryer. Their neighbor told police the other couple “use drugs and have people in and out of their residence” and said since they moved in the building has had a rat problem, also claiming hardware he’d purchased for his washer and dryer had disappeared before he could install it. He also told police he’s moving out at the end of the month. Until then, police told both households to steer clear of the other.
Bizarre: A Toronto woman entering a business in the 200 block of North Third Street said a man she’s never seen before called her “friend” and walked up to her, “then began threatening her, stating that he would kill her and her unborn child,” Saturday. She said he also told her he’d be waiting for her to leave the business and told police she doesn’t know why he would threaten her.
Bad reaction: A Linduff Avenue resident told police his son attacked him when he confronted him about being under the influence of drugs, Saturday. Police said the man told them he thought his son was acting strangely and confronted him, but his son became upset and tackled him to the floor, then took his cell phone and told his parents “they were going to jail tonight.” He wants to pursue charges.
A woman overdosed outside a gas station in the downtown while her car was still in gear, Friday. Officers were told the woman was unresponsive and her foot had slipped off the brake pedal, “allowing the vehicle to slowly cross the parking lot.” When they arrived at the location the car had been stopped but the driver “was still unresponsive and her foot was nearly off the brake pedal,” police said. An officer broke the passenger side front window to unlock the vehicle and get it into park, and Steubenville firefighters/EMS administered several doses of Narcan to revive her. Police said her cell phone had what appeared to be residue left behind on the screen and they found several glass pipes and she “admitted to snorting a small amount of heroin as she claimed that she had a headache.” She was issued a drug treatment form and advised to follow up with the prosecutor within 30 days to provide proof she’d obtained the required counseling.
Can’t let go: A downtown resident said an ex-boyfriend is threatening to come to her home and start problems, Friday.
Thieves: Wal-Mart employees said a man wearing a blue windbreaker, a faded blue ball cap and grey sweatpants stole two phones, running around employees “and … sprinting through the store,” Saturday. A female who was with him eventually walked out of the store and got into a dark-colored sedan parked at the end of the parking lot near the woods, which is about where police said they found the windbreaker and hat.
Character flawed: A Burgettstown man told police he let a woman use his car but she hasn’t returned it, Friday. He said she might have gone to a location in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, and several hours later called police for assistance retrieiving his keys from the woman.
Reported: Callers reported hearing shots fired in the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue, but police searched the area for evidence of guns being discharged “with negative results,” Sunday.
Persistent: A downtown resident told police his ex-girlfriend is “messaging him, calling him and commenting on his Facebook posts constantly,” Saturday. He said last week she arrived at his residence last week unannounced and walked in the front door, and believes she stole the key to his residence.
Trashy: Callers reported a man throwing garbage in the roadway on Foster Place at Kendall Avenue, but police said there was no one in the area when they arrived, Sunday. Another officer was dispatched to the same location several hours later for the same issue, but reported a man was already there cleaning it up.
Booked: Shawn Gill, no age available and no fixed address, Steubenville, bench warrant, Saturday.
